“I will be looking for a growth mindset in this year’s nominees. A common misconception in entrepreneurship is that it is inherent, innate and unchangeable to an individual – you either have what it takes to be an entrepreneur or you don’t. I fundamentally disagree with this fixed mindset theory. Ability, talent and skills to be entrepreneurial are learnable, and can be developed and achieved through efforts. Someone with this growth mindset will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed, thereby making every challenge a learning opportunity. Given the numerous challenges entrepreneurs face, a growth mindset serves as a powerful tool that allows for innovation, agility, resilience and humility.
Axiomatically, the category I am most looking forward to is the ‘Comeback Kid’, which will exemplify a growth mindset at its best. And of course, given the constant evolution in technology as well as my personal belief in serving our community with a purpose beyond profitability, I am looking forward to the potential of the nominees in the ‘Top Innovator’ and ‘Social Enterprise’ categories.”
