Kate Middelton‘s admirers have rallied to her defense after former Vogue editor Suzy Menkes criticized her jewellery taste, reported The Independent.
The Princess of Wales found herself the target of a rare round of style criticism over her approach towards jewellery when Menkes called her jewellery choices a “disappointment” in the latest episode of her podcast Creative Conversations.
The 79-year-old, from Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, made the scathing comment in conversation with British Vogue’s jewellery editor Carol Woolton.
“The Princess of Wales is a bit of a disappointment about jewellery,” Menkes said. “She gives the impression that she only puts it on when she absolutely has to.
“I imagine her looking beautiful in one of those gowns behind the scenes and then pulling a face as if to say, ‘Do I have to wear this?,” the critic continued. “She doesn’t give any sense of adoring jewellery and being pleased to put it on.”
Menkes also compared Kate’s jewelry attitude to that of Queen Camilla, saying, “Kate doesn’t seem to have Camilla’s joy at wearing jewelry.”
However, Kate’s supporters quickly jumped to her defence, applauding her for wearing a mix of high-end and low-cost pieces, reported Daily Mail.
“She does not need loads of adornment as she is beautiful, regal and representative of the RF without,” commented a Twitter user.
Another user pointed out that “Catherine doesn’t need jewellery to enhance her looks, her beauty shines through.”
“If she wore too many jewels, she would be labeled “showy” & criticized for wearing such expensive jewelry while the country is suffering. She has worn many pieces in the past that belonged to the RF. Also, remember when she wore the emerald choker to Eathshot, that was a topic,” argued a user.
“Catherine has her own style, and “who” is disappointed? The lady who made this statement is living in the past,” quipped another in Kate’s defence.
