The 12th Expert Group Meeting on the Bhutan-China boundary issue was held in Thimphu this week, Bhutan announced on Friday.
The two sides reviewed the positive consensus reached at the 11th EGM in Kunming, China and held frank and constructive discussions to take forward the implementation of the Three-Step Roadmap and, according to an official statement, expressed satisfaction on the progress made. The Roadmap was signed by the two natios in 2021 to expedite the border talks.
The two countries have so far held 24 rounds of border talks since they launched negotiations on the border dispute in 1984. India has been closely following all border engagements between China and Bhutan, more so after Bhutan PM Lotay Tshering said earlier this year that Bhutan had no major border problem with China and that the boundary issue between them would be resolved very soon. There has been speculation since then about the Doklam tri-junction issue, in which India also is a stakeholder because of the possible ramifications for its own security.
