NEW DELHI: Russia on Wednesday claimed that President Vladimir Putin has survived an assassination attempt by Ukraine.
Russia said that Ukraine attacked the Kremlin with drones overnight in a failed bid to kill President Vladimir Putin, according to the state-run RIA news agency.
It said no damage or casualties took place, adding that Putin was not at Kremlin at the time of the attack.
“Putin is working in Novo Ogaryovo, outside Moscow, on Wednesday,” it said.
The Kremlin added that President Vladimir Putin was safe and continued to work with his schedule unchanged.
The Kremlin said it considered the attack to be a “planned terrorist action”, RIA reported.
It said two drones had been used in the alleged attack, but had been disabled by Russian defences.
There have been several assassination attempts on the Russian President Putin so far.
Video appears to show smoke over Kremlin after alleged strike
Meanwhile, a video circulating on Russian social media on Wednesday appeared to show a plume of smoke over Moscow’s Kremlin.
The video was posted in the early hours of Wednesday on a group for residents of a neighbourhood that faces the Kremlin across the Mosvka River and picked up by Russian media, including the Telegram channel of the military news outlet Zvezda.
