Why EPF e-passbook facility is still down; other ways to view your passbook

Many EPF members who clicked on the e-passbook page encountered a 404 error. This has been the case for about a week now. It appears that a server issue is to blame for the users’ inability to access the EPFO portal’s e-passbook service. “According to the website, “Not Found. The requested URL /MemberPassBook/Login was not found on this server,” is the message many subscribers are getting when they try to access the page.

As per the passbook section on the EPFO website, “Due to Network failure the Member Passbook facility is currently unavailable. The same will be available shortly. Inconvenience is regretted.”

The passbook section has been down for a few days and EPFO’s reply to irate EPF subscribers on Twitter has been: “Dear member, we regret the inconvenience. The concerned team is looking into the matter. Kindly wait for some time. The matter will be resolved shortly.”

Other than the EPFO portal there are few other ways one can access their passbook or check their EPF balance.

According to the EPF website, “Member Passbook Service is accessible through UMANG App.”

How to view EPF passbook using UMANG app
Step 1: Download and open the UMANG app and log in to your account.

Step 2: Enter ‘EPFO’ in the search bar and click to search.
Step 3: Select ‘view passbook’ from the list of services.
Step 4: Enter your UAN number, OTP and submit the request.
Step 5: Select ‘member ID’ and download ePassbook.

How to check EPF balance by sending SMS
Sending an SMS to 7738299899 will provide you with information regarding your most recent contribution and PF balance if your UAN is registered with the EPFO. You must transmit the following message: EPFOHO UAN ENG. The desired language’s first three letters are “ENG.” Therefore, type EPFOHO UAN MAR to receive the message in Marathi. Make sure that your UAN is seeded with your bank account, Aadhaar, and PAN, or update the latest information.

How to check EPF balance using missed call
If you are registered on the UAN site, you can access the information by making a missed call from your registered mobile number to 9966044425. Make sure your bank account information, Aadhaar, and PAN are seeded into your UAN. You might even request that your employer plant them for you. There is no charge for this service.
